I already shared my 5 essentials for mom, and what I feel us moms need to pursue during the early stages of motherhood. Now, I would like to give you some essentials for baby to help you on your journey. Besides the obvious needs of baby like clothes, care seat, bottles, and diapers; I want to share with you something that maybe you did not think about, or some items that do not get enough attention.
These products have helped a lot with my little one, and a bit with Mila as a baby. I love how we as mothers and fathers grow during this stage as parents, and I love the retrospect I receive with each new opportunity. Mila is currently sick, and it just seems like we are in a stage of don'ts, you know don't do that, don't touch that, don't cough like that, don't act that way, don't eat that way. It gets overwhelming at times, but I am learning that even though we are saying no a lot to her, she just wants love. Kind, gentle, reciprocated love. Soft, spoken, direct, and caring love. Tenderness. It is always a learning curve when you go through something you have not experienced yet.
1. Bonjela Teething Gel.
This product is my go-to!! I swear by it. When I had my accident and received oral surgery, throughout the whole process I used this Brand gel on my gums and teeth. Oh, what soothing relief. I can only imagine what it does for little one, they make a teething gel also, and when we go to England, I always buy loads of it. Rub on the gums whenever and as much as needed.
2. Gripe Water
This product is amazing as little one grows and their tummies are beginning to take on more milk, and your milk is adjusting. Gripe water helps to calm there tummies from colic, gas, stomach cramps, fussiness. When baby is going through these changes they has gas pains, cry or wine, have air bubbles from feeding and crying. So their tummies are going through a lot. Gripe water helps to relieve the pain, and gas/air bubbles. Believe me, my little on is so gassy, I was giving him this all day long. What a huge help it is.
3. Cradle Cap Comb
Mila did not have so much cradle cap issue, but Dorian's cradle cap was so thick and flakey, and to be honest a bit gross. When I got this brush, it helped so much by exfoliating the dead skin away from his scalp. I used it to message his head and body during bath time. Cradle cap is like baby dandruff on bulk. From the hormonal changes, skin and hair changes. Cradle cap is natural and usually goes away at around six months. To keep it in check, I use the brush every night at bath time, and lather his head in coconut oil to soften the skin at night.
4. Baby Message.
I know this really is not a product, but I believe deep in my heart that baby messages are a necessity to their development, and stimulation. Babies crave and need skin on skin contact especially in the early months and a great way to achieve this is through message. We give our little ones a bath and before we get them ready for bed, we lather them down with moisturizer and give them a calming and soothing message. The message stimulates their nerves in the skin and muscles activating them and causes them to have a mini workout session making them aware of their body, helps stimulate healthy blood flow, and messaging the head and face stimulates the brain. All good things for a new developing baby. It also gives opportunity for tummy time. We live in Florida, and this is so calming and relaxing for the kids when we are out in the sun, and playing in the water, our skin is so important during this time. Ill link the product we use for moisturizer below, it also is good for the baby hair/ scalp and rids cradle cap.
5. Nuby Nighttime Teething Tablets
One thing that we did not know about for Mila, but I just found the other day is these teething tablets. Dorian has already begun to teeth and gets cranky and fussy at night because they bother him, and he cannot rest. So, I give him these quick dissolving tablets and they help him stay calm and sleep, and they give him much needed relief. Mila was up all-night crying and screaming in pain, and there wasn't much we knew to do for her. But these tablets have helped Dorian so much. You can even dissolve them in a bit of milk or water and give them to baby through a syringe. The tablets are fast acting and take away the discomfort on the gums.
I hope these will help sooth you, and baby during this time. Get as much sleep as you can when you can. Stay hydrated, and love on that little one any chance you can. They change and grow so fast.
